Kenny Wilson Remembered
On August 17, a Tustin family with strong ties to the YMCA and Beckman High School suffered a tragic loss with the death of 16-year-old Kenny Wilson, a hard-working and well-liked guard on the school's Patriots football team.
Kenny's father, Phil, has served as a Board member and chairman for the Central Orange Coast YMCA and has been active in YMCA programs with each of his children. He had many memorable moments with Kenny through his 11-year involvement in leadership positions with the Broken Lance North Y-Guides. Each patch on his vest reminds him of those special moments!
Kenny was remembered by his coach, Brian Mustain, as "a lighthearted gentle giant with a witty innocence and a big smile." In tribute to this special young man, who was also an outstanding member of the wrestling and track teams, the student body held a ceremony before the first game of the season and dedicated the season in his memory.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Kenny's life was held on August 25 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The family has set up the Kenny Wilson Memorial Fund. Information can be obtained by contacting Diana Treadway at Pacific Premier Bank in Newport Beach.
All of us at the YMCA of Orange County are proud to count the Wilson family among our special friends and extend our sympathy and support to them.
