New Federal Funding Supports Local Training Programs
Web Wise Kids has received federal funding to support Internet safety initiatives reaching nearly 500 schools in three states. These allocations are the latest in ongoing federal support for WWK programs designed to assist educators and law enforcement in addressing Internet safety issues for youth.
A new study by the National Cyber Security Alliance reports that less than 25% of educators feel comfortable teaching students how to protect themselves from online cyber predators, cyber bullies and identify theft. The study dramatically supports the importance of the Web Wise Kids commitment to training.
"We realize that a teacher's time is stressed to the extreme these days, and we want them to know that Web Wise Kids offers a complete resource for them," said Judi Westberg Warren, President, Web Wise Kids. "Over the last eight years, Web Wise Kids has trained over 4,000 educators and law enforcement officers on how to reach young people effectively with Internet safety education."
The new training programs supported by this round of federal funding include:
Pennsylvania - Two full-day training sessions through Venango Training and Development Center, Inc. to reach 100 schools in western Pennsylvania. Sponsored by U.S. Congressman John Peterson (R-PA, 5th District).
Indiana - Seven full-day training sessions through the Anderson Community School Corporation to reach 195 schools. Sponsored by U.S. Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN, 6th District).
Santa Ana, Calif. - Two full-day training sessions through the Santa Ana Police Department to reach 50 schools. Sponsored by U.S. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA, 47th District).
Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, Calif. - Five full-day training sessions through the Riverside County Office of Education to reach 150 schools in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Sponsored by U.S. Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-CA, 41st District).
