President's Corner
It was truly an amazing 2008 for Web Wise Kids, and we're excited to share a few of our major accomplishments as we begin 2009. Our fundamental goal is to "empower today's youth to make wise choices online." And we are doing just that!
In 2008 we surpassed a very significant milestone as our programs officially have now reached over 5.7 million children across the nation. Our games were implemented in many states including Utah, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Virginia, Florida, New York and Texas, among others.
With the sponsorship of the ESA Foundation, WWK was able to reach the entire New York PTA with our parent program, Wired With Wisdom. We also had a great opportunity to participate in and present at the Colorado Teen Summit hosted by the Internet Safety Foundation.
We have also been honored to work with five U.S. Attorneys across the country in the Project Safe Childhood program and will continue to work on the project throughout 2009/2010. Another important project just getting underway is a partnership with Microsoft in launching the Get Game Smart Campaign designed to help parents and kids establish healthy habits for playing video games, watching TV and browsing the Web. To learn more, visit GetGameSmart.com.
The year 2008 also brought new and exciting challenges to our great organization. With a generous grant from Verizon and the ESA Foundation, WWK gladly took on the task of developing a new cutting edge game to be launched in the near future. Details coming soon!
With all of our projects in motion and the new projects we have undertaken, we found ourselves in the happy position of needing to add a Project Manager to help coordinate our many and varied activities. We are pleased to announce that Carol Ballensky has joined our WWK team in that capacity. I hope you will join us in welcoming Carol to the organization.
