Above And Beyond
An Act of Heroism From A Very Special and Caring Driver Submitted by Keith C. Riddle, San Diego Transportation

This past December one of our drivers, Mr. Ron Walker, was conducting business as usual making a delivery at a customer's home. When Ron arrived to make the delivery, he rang the doorbell, but no one answered. This is not unusual, and typically a driver would have concluded that no one was home and would have gone on their way. But for some reason, Ron had a strange intuitive feeling that something was not right. Ron decided to have the dispatch team call the customer, but no one answered the call. Ron, decided to be a little more persistent and continued to knock on the door. After knocking for a few minutes, Ron heard a plea for help. Upon hearing the customer's cry for help, Ron entered the home and found a gentleman lying on the floor, unable to move. The man had taken a fall and was not able to get up. Ron immediately called Emergency 911 and the customer's family. Emergency services were dispatched and Ron waited with the customer until help had arrived.
We, at TLC, are happy to report that the customer has greatly improved and is well on his way to a full recovery. Ron's intuition, presence of mind and tenacity helped to save this man's life. Oftentimes, we get wrapped up in work and are so concerned about efficiency that we miss opportunities to help others and to do what is right. It would have been more convenient for Ron to ignore his notion that something was wrong at the house, but he didn't, Ron truly went the extra mile and in return helped to save a life.
We are truly proud of Ron's decision to "do the right thing" and how much he cared for his customer!
Ron, thank you for all of your efforts and keep up the great work!
