June 1 was a very special day on the Santa Ana College campus. Several major events took place, including the Alumni Hall of Fame Awards and our annual Commencement ceremony. The Alumni Hall of Fame Awards recognized four exceptional individuals for their professional and personal achievements. At Commencement, over 6,000 attendees saluted some 500 graduates as they move on to success in their professional careers or additional college endeavors.
This year's Ed Arnold Golf Classic held in late May at SeaCliff Country Club raised $52,500 for the benefit of the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame and student-athlete scholarships. The total marked a nearly 15% increase on proceeds over 2006's tally of $46,000. Following a great day of golf on a beautiful course, attendees gathered for dinner, a live auction, tournament awards, and the announcement of athletic scholarships and Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees.
As we close the door on one academic year and look toward the next, it is an important time to take an inventory of the resources needed to continually improve the fine associate degree and certification programs available to our students. That process, of course, includes identifying sources of financial support to augment our funding from the state. Those funds can truly make the difference between being very good and achieving excellence in our mission.
