SR-22 Project Celebrates Two Years of Progress
The Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) Improvement Project celebrated its second year of construction on Sept. 22. Commuting to work or school can be a challenge, especially if your daily route has been detoured or your on- or off-ramp is temporarily closed. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) would like to thank you for you patience and cooperation over the past two years while we have been working around the clock to bring you the New 22. We are pleased to report that the SR-22 project is slated for substantial completion in November 2006.
The soon-to-be-finished SR-22 Improvement Project will enhance traffic flow and remove bottlenecks along the 12-mile stretch of the Garden Grove Freeway. The project, which spans the cities of Westminster, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Orange, will help accommodate the 200,000 motorists who travel the corridor daily.
Many elements of the New 22 are already complete, including:
- A reconfigured connector from southbound Orange Freeway (SR-57) to westbound SR-22.
- Relocation of The City Drive on- and off-ramps to eliminate the weaving and lane changing motorists previously encountered while exiting and entering at The City Drive or merging from southbound SR-57 to westbound SR-22.
- Additional lanes on various on- and off-ramps.
- Soundwalls and aesthetic enhancements along the project limits.
