"There are less than 200 days of construction until the 'New 22'
is completed and we see a safer, faster, easier commute."

New Southbound SR-57 and I-5 Connector to Westbound SR-22 to Open May 19

The new elevated southbound Orange (SR-57) and Santa Ana (I-5) freeway connector to the westbound SR-22 will open May 19. This connector was originally slated to open in July 2006 but due to a relatively dry winter, it will open ahead of schedule. More than 43,000 vehicles currently utilize the connector daily. The realignment of the SR-57/I-5 connector to the westbound SR-22 and The City Drive on and off-ramps will eliminate weaving and merging and increase traffic flow in the area.

Construction will be complete on the Orange County Transportation Authority's Garden Gove (SR-22) Improvement Project in less than 200 days. "The New 22" -- which would not be possible without Measure M, the half-cent sales tax Orange County voters passed in 1990 for transportation improvements - is expected to finish late 2006.

OCTA is making every effort to ensure that resident and commuter inconveniences are minimized. For more information, please visit the SR-22 Project website www.octa.net/sr22 or call the Transportation Helpline at 1-800-724-0353.
