Orange County Transportation Authority Named "America's Best Transportation System" in 2005

A national transportation organization declared that the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has the No. 1 transportation system in the United States.

The award from the American Public Transportation Association is astounding because OCTA's transportation system edged out areas such as New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and Portland.

Innovation is a key OCTA component for delivering effective transportation solutions to Orange County – now and in the future.

"The nation is just realizing what Orange County residents have known for years - that we have a truly exceptional transportation system that includes many ways of moving people," said Art Leahy, OCTA's chief executive officer. "We are extremely excited about this award. It's a testament to the vision and work of the people of Orange County."

The nation's No. 1 transportation system includes a fast-growing bus system that annually serves more than 68 million passengers, improved Metrolink commuter trains, the 91 Express Lanes providing faster commutes for residents in Orange County and the Inland Empire, a significantly enhanced freeway system and coordinated taxicab operations.
