Commuter Safety: Freeway Service Patrol

As you may know, OCTA operates the Freeway Service Patrol in Orange County, a first-of-its-kind public service available to all motorists traveling on Orange County freeways who need emergency roadside service.

And now, OCTA is doing even more to ensure a safer and faster commute. During the SR-22 Improvement project, OCTA is enhancing the Freeway Service Patrol by conducting continuous service patrols along the 12 mile stretch of SR-22 on a daily basis for those in need of immediate assistance.

“The Freeway Service Patrol that OCTA provides truly is a benefit that goes above and beyond what other local transportation agencies offer," said Carolyn Cavecche, an OCTA board member and mayor pro tem of the city of Orange. “Thanks in part to Measure M funding, OCTA is going the extra distance to help commuters in need of emergency service, making it a safer commute for everyone.”

Last year, the Freeway Service Patrol has been a proven benefit to Orange County commuters, having helped over 58,000 commuters along the county’s freeways.

I need emergency roadside assistance...what do I do?

If your car becomes disabled on the SR-22, it will be only a matter of minutes before assistance arrives. Please exit your car only when it is safe, then step on the other side of the temporary barriers (k-rail) that have been placed on the sides of the freeway. Waiting for assistance away from traffic behind the k-rail provides additional protection from freeway traffic.
