KCOMM Legislative Update: Senator Ackerman, Assemblyman Duvall Outline Challenges
Budget, Education and Presidential Election Among Topics Addressed

KCOMM's Government Affairs practice was pleased to host State Senator Dick Ackerman and State Assemblyman Mike Duvall on Thursday, July 24 for an exclusive briefing at GR CAM's new offices in Newport Beach. The Senator and Assemblyman shared their expert perspectives on the current budget crisis in California, how education plays into that equation, and their thoughts on the presidential election.

Given the current divide on key issues between both parties in the Assembly and the Senate, the budget is a topic of intense discussion and deep concern for Californians, and the group was able to address these matters with Senator Ackerman and Assemblyman Duvall. Education and Proposition 98 are among the top issues that both parties are debating as the public grows increasingly uneasy about the health of California's educational system. On the Presidential election, the Senator and Assemblyman observed that it will be a close race and offered their views on potential running mates for the two candidates. Elections in the California legislature will be equally competitive as both parties have several key seats in play. Other topics included in the discussion were oil drilling, transportation, and renewable energy.

This event was part of the KCOMM Legislative Series which brings in diverse elected officials to meet and share opportunities with friends and associates. Participants included: Melody Akhavan, Port of Los Angeles, DJ Burke, Vice President, Hollencrest Capital Management, Sinan Kanatsiz, CEO, KCOMM, Jeff Montejano, President, KCOMM, Lou Penrose, District Director, Congressman John Campbell, Simon Reeves, Wealth Manager, Summit Portfolio, Ana Rotar, Political Affairs Specialist, KCOMM, Todd Rustman, CEO, GR CAM, Dave Holscher, Vice President, KCOMM, Jon Voget, Executive Director, YMCA of Orange County, Assembly Member Mike Duvall and Brian Calle, Managing Director, Gambit Consulting.

Education Reform Update: Insight Schools Wraps Up 30-day Road Show
Innovative Online Public High School Promoted in Over 30 Cities

Insight Schools, the nation's leading online public high school program, celebrated the completion on July 4th of a highly successful 30-day RV tour that extended throughout the state of California.

KCOMM managed this exciting project that was created primarily to support the opening of the new Insight School of California - North Bay in northern California and also to support the central and southern California counties served by the existing Insight School of California - Los Angeles. The RV tour was promoted on a special website, www.insightrv.com, where photos and a blog provided daily updates on the RV's progress.

The RV cruised from San Clemente to the San Francisco Bay area then back through the central valley to southern California, visiting communities and creating friendships with students and families along the way to inform them about this very innovative online school. The RV visited a wide range of locations including metropolitan parks, community centers, farmers markets, festivals, fairs, amusement parks and motorsports events. A special highlight of the trip was attending the NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Speedway in Sonoma which was attended by over 100,000 people.

Each Insight School is a tuition-free, diploma-granting, online public high school designed for students seeking an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar school environment. Online education can provide vital answers to issues facing public schools as they confront budget cuts, large classes, high dropout rates and other challenges.
