Girls and Boys Town Opens Major New Facility with KCOMM Assist
New Lennar Center To Serve At-Risk Girls in Southern California

On July 15, Girls and Boys Town of Southern California held a grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Lennar Assessment and Short-Term Residential Center located in East Rancho Dominguez, CA. KCOMM provided a wide range of support for the event including strategic event planning consultation, recruitment of special guests and presenters, logistical support, and media relations.

The 10,000-square-foot facility will provide vital services for at-risk girls in Los Angeles and surrounding counties. It was made possible in part by a $1-million gift from Lennar Corporation, a leading nationwide home builder. And it was adopted by HomeAid Los Angeles/Ventura.

Drawing more than 200 people, the event was kicked off by Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, after welcoming remarks by Robert Hartmann, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Girls and Boys Town of Southern California. Additional speakers included Eric Perrodin, Mayor, City of Compton; Edward Sosa, Division Chief, Emergency Response Command Post, County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services; Venus Manuel, Probation Officer / Independent Living Coordination, Los Angeles County Probation Department; Jennie Cowart, Executive Director, HomeAid Los Angeles/Ventura; Matt Coleman, Executive Director, Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation; Father Steven Boes, National Executive Director, Girls and Boys Town; and Keith Rhodes, Executive Director, Girls and Boys Town of Southern California.

Also in attendance were Charles Davis, Executive Director of the Compton Chamber of Commerce, national and local management and staff from Girls and Boys Town, community representatives, donors and other friends of Girls and Boys Town, youth residents from other Girls and Boys Town facilities, local residents, and media. Following the ribbon cutting, Girls and Boys Town youth residents led guided tours of the facility.

"Los Angeles is the place of angels, and I see lots of angels gathered here today," observed Father Boes. "Father Flanagan made a place for kids in his heart, a place to learn the difference between right and wrong, a place to be part of a larger family, Father Flanagan's family. We thank all of you today for being angels for the kids."
