Victory! KCOMM, Developer Earn Project Approval

Last month was stellar for KCOMM client NDC Development, a subsidiary of Newport Beach-based Capital Pacific Holdings.

In March, the Santa Ana City Council approved (with a unanimous 7-0 vote!) NDC's plan to bring high-rise residential development to a 200-acre area adjacent to the Costa Mesa (55) and Santa Ana (I-5) freeways. Revitalizing the area by creating a vibrant pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, NDC will build two residential towers that would feature 374 units, ground-floor retail and a rooftop swimming pool at 1901 E. First Street.

KCOMM provided government and community relations services for NDC, helping the developer educate and communicate with elected officials, City staff, residents, business, media and community groups about the highly-anticipated project, ensuring all interested parties were continually informed and all questions and concerns were fully addressed.

A great milestone for Santa Ana - and for NDC Development.

Transportation Agency Enlists KCOMM to Help Get Word Out to Taxpayers

It's a big job - delivering safer, faster, and more efficient transportation solutions in Orange County, a region encompassing 948 square miles, 34 cities and more than three million people.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) gets commuters where they want to go faster through countywide bus and paratransit service, Metrolink commuter rail service, the 91 Express Lanes toll facility, freeway, street and road improvement projects and motorist aid services. In effectively doing so, OCTA must constantly communicate with a very large and diverse audience: drivers, residents, businesses, seniors, elected officials, social groups, students who to and from school, government agencies, the news media - the list of who OCTA communicates regularly with is long and extensive.

OCTA retained KCOMM to assist with the critical task of informing and updating its many audiences through strategic counseling, innovative technology and media relations activities. Having enlisted KCOMM to design and implement an effective electronic newsletter for OCTA's $550-million Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) Improvement Project, OCTA is once again working with KCOMM to produce a series of video and radio public service announcements (PSA's). The informational pieces will educate OCTA's audiences about such projects and programs as Metrolink expansion, Measure M renewal funding opportunities, an open-access carpool lane program, progress of the I-5 Freeway expansion project and more - all designed to ease your commute and get you where you want to be sooner.

Keep your eyes and ears open for OCTA's new PSA's later this year!

KCOMM Helps Public Agency Grow Into the Future

As businesses grow, oftentimes they refine their organizational structure, business practices, communication mediums, marketing materials and even their corporate image. The same often holds true for government agencies.

The Rosamond Community Services District (RCSD) is the governing body for the growing community of Rosamond, CA, located in southern Kern County, just north of Lancaster. The RCSD provides water for domestic, irrigation and fire flow, collects and treats waste water, maintains street lights, oversees parks and recreation and provides graffiti abatement - effective and efficient services that preserve the community's quality of life that make Rosamond a better place to live, work and play.

The community is now overcoming many challenges as it's growing in population, offering more community services, attracting more businesses, building more school and recreational facilities and even considering city-hood. In fact, Rosamond's population grew from roughly 2,000 in the late 1960s to nearly 20,000 people today, with the number of RCSD customers expanding from hundreds to more than 5,000. So, communicating to its community - and how it communicates - is essential.

In addition to ongoing litigation support, KCOMM delivers a range of services for the RCSD, including strategic consulting, public affairs, logo and message development, media relations, web site development, electronic newsletters, community outreach - all strategies that positively position the public agency during its dramatic growth as the Antelope Valley's "Heart of the Golden Triangle." As a public agency, it's crucial that the RCSD shape its organization with a modern, professional, informational and consistent image and structure.

Coming in May, you'll be able to see the RCSD's new web site at www.rosamondcsd.com.

T-Mobile Retains KCOMM to Help Win Approval in L.A. County and Beyond

As you're well aware, cell phones are used nearly everywhere. In coffee shops, at sporting events, at work, in people's cars, in grocery stores, even in the local library sometimes (OK, maybe not on airplanes...yet). In fact, many people often feel lost without their cell phones. How is this technology so convenient?

Cellular antenna facilities play a huge role in making it possible, and KCOMM client T-Mobile is keeping pace with the advancements in technology and public demand for cell phone service.

T-Mobile is a national provider of the latest and best technologies for high-quality, consistent connection to voice calls, data, e-mail, and more, capable of reaching over 268 million Americans. Now, T-Mobile is working to improve cell phone service in Los Angeles County and other southern California jurisdictions.

With KCOMM providing government relations services, L.A. County's draft wireless telecommunication ordinance supported by T-Mobile was recently approved by the County's Planning Commission. The ordinance will go before the County Board of Supervisors within the next couple of months.

KCOMM provides T-Mobile with message development, strategy and relationship-building in educating the County's elected officials and staff on the benefits of the ordinance and how it will ensure quality service for constituents a consistent basis.
