Sold Out Concert Venues Bring More Marketing Power to the OC
:.
This month I experienced some great concerts in Orange County. First, the Rolling Stones, simply outstanding! Mick Jager and his crew are just as energetic today as 30 years ago. Their 5 story, 2 million dollar stage is surreal. 140, 18-wheeler trucks are dedicated to transporting the stage in addition to a crew of 8,000 to carefully piece it together and tear it back down during the tour. In addition to the Stones, I also had the chance to see Gwen Stefani perform live at the Pond of Anaheim. Both concerts opened my eyes to the entertainment marketing power of Orange County and its ability to attract the best performers at the finest venues. As more quality shows swing to the west-coast, I predict that Vegas and Southern California’s entertainment economy will boom in the next few decades.
IMA Event Brings Marketers and Visionaries Together
:.
The Internet Marketing Association event held on Nov. 3 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort convened over 100 of the area’s top marketing professionals and eight top experts to share the latest intelligence on how Internet marketing can contribute to exceptional business success. Organized and moderated by KCOMM CEO Sinan Kanatsiz, the panel-style evening encompassed search engine optimization and marketing, key legal considerations in protecting intellectual property on the Internet, current governmental and legislative issues with impact on Internet activities, and a keynote address by Paul Makarechian on how Makar Properties (developer, owner and operator of the St. Regis) is using Internet marketing as a fundamental part of its highly innovative real estate development business.
But that wasn’t the end of the evening. Makarechian brought to the podium three surprise speakers who shared their unique perspectives and strategies on Internet marketing. They were Vinny Smith, CEO of Quest Software; Wing Lam, CEO of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos; and Roman Tsunder, CEO of Access Retail TV. These three unexpected additions to the line-up offered their unique insights to cap an evening packed with ideas and information. For details on the IMA, visit www.imanetwork.org.
Kanatsiz Receives California Community College Distinguished Alumni Award
:.
Sinan Kanatsiz, who attended Santa Ana College in the early 90s before transferring to Chapman University, was recently selected from 1.7 million alumni from the state to receive the coveted California Community College Distinguished Alumni Award for 2005 at the Community College League of California’s annual convention held Nov. 17-19 in San Francisco. At age 31, he is the youngest recipient to receive this award.
“Sinan’s accomplishments extend beyond the commercial realm, in that he is involved with community activism and student-related causes,” said Carol Krumbach, director of the Office of College Advancement at Santa Ana College. “He finds time to mentor students at Santa Ana College, Chapman University and high schools in the area.”
The Community College League of California is a non-profit public benefit corporation of 72 local community college districts in California, representing 109 community colleges in all. The Distinguished Alumni Award is given to alumni who are accomplished professionals and contributing citizens to their communities.
Gen NeXt Brings Together LA Leaders and Former US Ambassador for War Crimes:
:.
Generation NeXt (Gen NeXt), an Orange County-based political group consisting of young business and community leaders, descended upon Los Angeles once again for a fun and informative evening with a top U.S. official.
Gen NeXt members and guests met with Former United States Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues and Candidate for California Attorney General, Pierre Richard Prosper, at the highly-exclusive Plush Lounge (formerly Shelter) on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Prosper fascinated everyone with a very interesting account of his efforts leading the war crimes prosecution for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, brought forth by events that inspired the film, “Hotel Rwanda.” Prosper also served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California and as Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County.
“Gen NeXt was ecstatic to talk with such a well-accomplished individual and gain some first-hand insight into the major issues affecting California and the world,” said Sinan Kanatsiz, Gen NeXt co-founder and board member. “Our events keep getting better and better.”

Microsoft’s Going After Google, But Will They Stand a Chance?
:.
Observations by Sinan Kanatsiz, Chairman, the Internet Marketing Association
This is major news in the Internet marketing world as behemoth Microsoft launches its own search engine keyword service for MSN, AdCenter, designed to go head-to-head with Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing services as mentioned during our Internet Marketing Association event earlier this month.
The real news is that MSN will offer marketers new tools to help target audiences by age, gender, location, time of day and day of week. Plus, Microsoft will expand reach to mobile devices, console gaming, interactive television, and even ad-supported software.
AdCenter has surpassed Google and Yahoo in functionality with this first release. However, with increased functionality come limitations. Both the Google and Yahoo programs are cross-browser compatible, meaning they will work so long as you have Internet access and a standard browser. Because MSN's AdCenter employs Active X technology, the release requires you to use Internet Explorer 5.5+ on a Windows Operating System. Another significant limitation is a lack of ability to test more than one version of your AdCopy. At this point, this single feature makes Google the starting point for PPC campaigns, because ad copy driving the most traffic and multiple campaigns can be evaluated automatically.
