THIS MONTH'S FEATURE

iStor's iS512 is designed to address today's storage system requirements and here are five key reasons you should take a look.

1. Future Proof Investment with Configuration Flexibility
The iS512 system offers maximum flexibility to grow with the changing customer needs for increased capacity, tiered storage and high availability. As new disk drive technologies emerge, the iS512 can mix and match these new drives with the initial investment of the iS512 storage system along with seamless additions of expansion enclosures to go from 12 to 36 drive configurations initially as the customer's storage needs grow with additional capacity expansion capabilities this year. The iS512 supports SAS and SATA drives to address various capacity points, performance levels and resiliency requirements. Additionally the iS512 supports a single controller configuration that can grow into a dual controller configuration for enhanced levels of high availability. iS512 features 8 ports of GbE host connectivity running at full line rate that uniquely provides storage connectivity for up to 1024 servers.

Unlike many solutions on the market which need to add storage controllers to accommodate growth, iS512 extends the host bandwidth to the expansion arrays with two separate SAS expansion interfaces, providing twice the expansion array bandwidth of other solutions. This enables the iS512 storage system to provide the user the ability to simply add capacity dynamically on demand while ensuring sufficient host bandwidth to all drives in the storage system for a real competitive edge.

2. Cost Effective for Entire Life Cycle Management
Unlike some solutions on the market, there are no additional costs associated with adding expansion arrays to the storage system, such as license fees. With iStor there are no license fees ever for supporting beyond an artificial number of servers (e.g. 4, 8, or 16 servers), as iS512 supports up to 1024 servers without financial connectivity encumbrances.

iS512's value proposition extends to supporting deployments with appropriate drive technology (either SAS or SATA) to satisfy each application's service level objective and facilitate tiered storage environments. iS512 maintains its impressive value long after the product is initially installed.

3. High Performance with Innovative 10G Architecture
iS512's 10G architecture enables full bandwidth to all 8 GbE ports, and power to share high-speed storage across multiple virtual servers. iS512 also facilitates growth to a 10G host interface supporting the higher speed SAN infrastructure. This translates to exceptional IOPs for bandwidth intensive workloads or high MB/Sec on transaction oriented database applications. The iS512 will have the performance headroom to protect your investment as the amount of storage capacity and server connectivity scale over the life of the investment. This ensures compatibility with today's storage networks with seamless migration to tomorrow's storage networks.

4. Smart and Simple Virtualized and Consolidated Storage
iS512's intuitive & logical graphical user interface (GUI) includes an easy "4-click" installation that greatly reduces installation time & lowers operational expenses. This embedded management console is rich in features, allowing users to install, configure, and maintain their online network storage with uncommon ease and flexibility.

The intelligence behind the iS512 is the virtualization engine that facilitates provisioning of storage easily to the existing servers in the network or even new virtual servers being brought online. iS512's powerful virtualization engine greatly simplifies the creation of volumes of varying resiliencies across a drive set of varying capacities. iS512 enables flexibility to allocate the most appropriate RAID level on a volume by volume (application) basis, in a single array utilizing various physical drive capacities. The iS512's point and click ease extends to expanding volumes on the fly, as storage capacity requirements dynamically grow. This means that as the application requirements change, the iS512 storage can easily adapt to it and IT spends minimal time managing storage.

5. Compatibility and Flexibility of Choice for Customer Applications
iS512's breadth of compatibility enables plug & play simplicity with a wide range of adapters, switches, operating systems, and data protection applications. iStor offers "flexibility of choice" for snapshot, continuous data protection (CDP), backup and replication. The IT manager may choose from a list of compatible partner offerings, or preserve the data protection solution already deployed in the SAN. iS512 customers have the best of both worlds in the ability to select the best data protection product for their environment and only pay for what is needed (no more and no less).

In order to be successful in today's "more for less" value-oriented market, storage networking products must meet all the buying criteria outlined above: investment protection, cost-effectiveness, high performance, ease of use and maximum flexibility. The iS512 is designed to deliver to these customer expectations.
