National Executive Director Visits Southern California
Father Steven Boes, National Executive Director of Girls and Boys Town, paid a special visit to Southern California on September 16-19. The trip was part of his ongoing commitment to seeing every affiliate campus in person on a regular basis as he passes his first anniversary in the position.
His stay in SoCal kicked off with a weekend barbeque at the Monarch Beach home of Robert Hartmann, Chairman of the Girls and Boys Town of Southern California Board of Trustees. The gathering was attended by the Board and the Southern California leadership team.
Monday and Tuesday were very busy days as Father Boes visited each Southern California program including the Los Angeles Price Family Campus for girls, the Long Beach Emergency Shelter and Assessment Center for boys, and the Trabuco Canyon Residential Campus with the Tilly's Baby Home. He also attended a construction planning meeting at the new shelter being built in Compton and set to open in February 2007.
While at the Compton project, Father Boes also meet with Genette Eaton, the CEO of HomeAid. Headquartered in Newport Beach, CA, HomeAid is a national non-profit organization focused on providing shelter for men, women and children in need. HomeAid and homebuilder Lennar partnered to help Girls and Boys Town make the Compton shelter a reality. Father Boes met with Eaton to discuss a potential partnership between HomeAid and Girls and Boys Town on a national scope.
At each facility, Father Boes had the opportunity to meet the staff and resident children. In his interaction with the children, Father Boes demonstrated a very warm, personable and friendly style that established a caring bond quickly. He talked with them about their backgrounds, their personal challenges, and their experiences at Girls and Boys Town. And he took the time to counsel them and make them feel at home.
