Executive Directors and Development Directors Attend Weeklong Fund Raising Seminar at National Campus

A weeklong gathering at the national campus in Omaha recently provided an exceptional opportunity for Girls and Boys Town Executive Directors and Development Directors from across the country to gain significant additional expertise in fund raising.

The five-day, intensive workshop was conducted by The Fund Raising School, headquartered at Indiana University. Founded in 1974 and dedicated to the advancement of ethical fund raising, this organization is the country's leading resource for fund raising and development training. Topics covered in the course included ethical frameworks for fund raising, capital campaigns, donor recognition groups, and planned giving programs. Attendees received formal certification upon completion of the program.

"Because an ongoing and successful development effort is essential to maintaining self-sufficiency of our local affiliate sites, our national organization has made this investment in enhancing our skills and expertise at the local level," noted Keith Diederich, President and CEO of Girls and Boys Town of Southern California.

Established in 1991, Southern California was one of the first of the Girls and Boys Town local affiliates and has built one of the strongest development departments in the organization.

"We are constantly striving to create innovative ways to offer productive and satisfying opportunities for businesses, individuals and other organizations to help support the very important work being done at Girls and Boys Town of Southern California," said Jennifer Stolo, Development Director. "And we are very pleased that the national office has taken the lead in ensuring that we are as effective as possible in that endeavor."
