Tilly's Baby Home Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with Special Guests Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and Tilly Levine

The one-year anniversary on August 10 of the Tilly's Baby Home at the Girls and Boys Town of Southern California's Trabuco residential campus brought together an inspiring group of the people responsible for its success with special recognition by a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"To see all these generous and caring people together at one time reinforces just how special the Tilly's Baby Home is," observed Keith Diederich, Southern California President and CEO. "And it also demonstrates what it takes to make this kind of a vision a reality."

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has had a longstanding involvement in children's issues including the First Star Congressional Caucus which is working to build best practices in foster care. She toured one of the Trabuco Campus homes, engaged in question-and-answer sessions with the residents, and toured the Tilly's Baby Home.

Sanchez presented a special certificate from the House of Representatives to Girls and Boys town in recognition of its outstanding and dedicated community service and generous support of young people in Orange County. She also presented a special House certificate to Tilly's in recognition and thanks for their outstanding and generous commitment to service through Girls and Boys Town.

Tilly's founder Tilly Levine presented a check for $58,000 raised at their annual golf outing to support the ongoing operations of the Baby Home. She emphasized the satisfaction provided by being part of the Girls and Boys Town family, while expressing appreciation to the companies and brands that provided their support by participating in the golf outing. The check presentation was followed by distribution of back-to-school backpacks provided by Tilly's and filled with clothes, shoes and fun items for each child at the campus.

In addition, a special award was presented by Diederich to Dick and April Arends, the family-teachers at the Baby Home who have been there since its inception. Diederich cited their invaluable role as the primary care-givers for these children. The Arends in turn honored Cathy Chapman as Volunteer of the Year.

To wrap-up the formal proceedings, Diederich introduced Jim and Cindy Tracy. Jim is the grandson of Spencer Tracy, the star of the 1938 movie about Boys Town that was instrumental in gaining national recognition of the organization. The family has continued to support Girls and Boys Town.
