Girls and Boys Town Celebrates Compton Shelter Groundbreaking
In collaboration with HomeAid and Lennar Homes
Girls and Boys Town announced the groundbreaking for its third Los Angeles County emergency assessment center and shelter on Tuesday, April 11. At the event HomeAid Los Angeles/ Ventura, Lennar Homes and select officials announced plans for the new Compton Shelter.
In partnership with HomeAid and Lennar Homes, Girls and Boys Town celebrated the start of the new Compton Shelter. The purpose is to provide under privileged children of L.A. with a safe, caring, loving environment where they gain confidence to get better and learn skills to become productive citizens.
Lennar Homes and Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation also presented Girls & Boys Town with $1 million dollar check in a combination of in-kind and cash donations that will cover the costs of this project. Lennar is currently working on three other shelter projects for HomeAid Los Angeles/ Ventura that will take place this year.
While it is Girls & Boys Town mission to assist children and families in crisis, they currently do not have the facilities to meet the overwhelming need for emergency placements. This new shelter will extend the reach to help, heal and offer hope to hundreds of abused and neglected youth who are working to turn their lives around.
Among the many entities that made this project possible, representatives from each organization were: Keith Diederich, President and CEO of Girls & Boys Town Southern California; Bob Hartmann, Chairman of Board of Trustees for Girls and Boys Town of Southern California; John Bailey, Executive Director of HomeAid Los Angeles/ Ventura; Genette Eaton, CEO of HomeAid National, Jeff Roos, Regional President of Lennar Homes; Matt Coleman, Executive Director of Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation; Holly Schroeder, Executive Officer of BIA Greater Los Angeles/Ventura Chapter; Edward Sosa, Division Chief of Out Home Care Management Program from the Department of Children and Family Services of Los Angeles and the elected official representative was Assemblyman Keith Richman, Los Angeles 38 District, State Treasurer Elect.
